Early Treatment

Early treatment, also known as Phase I treatment, often begins between the ages of 7 and 9.

Goals of early treatment may include correcting abnormal jaw development or creating space for permanent teeth. Dr. Janice Lee will carefully monitor your child’s growth and development and provide early treatment only when necessary.

Some children benefit from a “Phase 1” or early orthodontic treatment. While some teeth and bite issues can wait, others are important to address at an earlier age.

Dr. Janice Lee generally recommends early orthodontic treatment when:

  • The problem will get worse if we wait
  • We can treat the problem better and more efficiently now vs. later
  • Growth will not correct the problem
  • We are having social/emotional concerns related to our smile
  • Not every child needs an early phase of orthodontic treatment!

Common early orthodontic treatments we provide:

  • Palate expanders
  • Limited braces
  • Tooth-moving retainers
  • Space maintainers

If you are concerned about your child’s jaw growth or dental development, schedule a complimentary consult at Lee Orthodontics.

Adults

Did you know 1 in 5 orthodontic patients are adults? There’s no such thing as being too old or too young for orthodontic treatment. Orthodontic care is based on the unique needs and goals of each patient. Dr. Janice Lee is here to help determine the timing and type of treatment necessary to give you a healthy, beautiful smile. Adults usually have options for the type of orthodontic treatment, including metal braces, clear braces, and clear aligners.

Adult teeth and bite issues we commonly treat:

  • Relapse and slight shifting of teeth after braces as a kid

Teenagers

Orthodontic treatment is often done during teenage years because all permanent teeth are usually in, and growth spurts can aid in correction of bite issues. There is no age requirement for starting orthodontics, but often comprehensive treatment starts around ages 11-15 years old. Adolescents and teens usually have options for the type of orthodontic treatment, including metal braces, clear braces, and clear aligners.
